About Mule

We’re more interested in talking about you.

This isn’t a line. This is the most important thing to know about us. This is why we started an agency 25 years ago (gulp). We are interested in people and organizations and technology and we like nice things. We are particularly interested in why — when you put people into organizations to make things with technology — they don’t always come out as nice as you’d hoped. Not you personally, of course.

We want to help with that. We can’t say whether we can help you specifically until we know more about you, and your organization, and what you have in mind. We can say with confidence, that if you smash that button below, you’ll be glad you did, even if we decide not to work together. We’re fun to talk to, we’re good at what we do, and we don’t waste anyone’s time.

What we do

These days we focus more on design research, design/communication strategy, and practice development — helping your team figure out what to do and do it well. We offer blood-tingling workshops on several topics. We can also do interaction design, information architecture, graphic design, copywriting, branding, and in collaboration with our partners, deliver a complete app or website.

We are adept at dealing with organizational politics. Because the thing standing between your organization and your desired outcome is usually a series of hard conversations.

We anticipate what could go wrong because we’ve seen it before. We have a tremendous amount of experience with marketing and fundraising.

We care about your success and your well-being.

What we don’t do

We don’t take on work we can’t do well. We don’t stop learning. We don’t act like egotistical jerks. We don’t hold back from giving our honest opinion. We don’t pretend a bad idea is a good one just because it’s popular or seems easier. We don’t take our responsibility to our clients lightly.

Who we’ve worked with

We’ve worked with organizations of every description who needed help doing something worthwhile. We’ve worked with none of the clients listed in the Google Search AI summary we just checked.

Social proof

“If you ever think that you are not making decisions based on decent evidence, and if you are lucky enough to get their attention, then maybe you can hire Mule Design. You’ll be in the best hands possible.”

—Jesús Gorriti, Head of Digital Customer Experience & Design, ‎RBC

It’s been a few years since we worked with Jesús and he has a different job now, but this is our favorite of the testimonials we had to hand. It’s still true.

Some buzzwords

Collaboration. Transformation. Craft. Innovation. User-centered. Conversational design.

Critical thinking isn’t a buzzword, but it’s a thing we actually practice and talk about a lot. Also, compassion. You can’t work with people unless you care about caring.

About the illustration at the top of the page

It’s the backside of an Etch A Sketch, a mechanical drawing toy that functions like a 2-dimensional plotter. Great way to learn about designing with constraints.
